The computer screen behind Kenny Skott shows one of the characters in the new game. It’s a character from another computer game, which he borrowed for his new game, which will be launched soon.
Kenny’s passion: A hungover pig in a world near doom
Kenny Skott, the man from Trelleborg behind the indie-game studio, has reduced his working hours and is now investing wholeheartedly in the dream of being able to live on game development.
After sleeping off the intoxication for three days, a pig wakes up at a bar. He is in poor condition. Because he smells so bad, a fly is constantly buzzing around him.
Experienced gamers easily understand the reference to the fairy that usually follows the character Link in the Zelda games. The difference is that when Link gets help from his companion, the pig Tord and the fly get on each other’s nerves. They simply do not thrive in each other’s company.
The Trelleborg-developed game “Downfall of Krynto” is full of this type of references and lots of dark humor. In a world inspired by computer games from the 90s and cartoons, the player must defeat dark forces and stop the impending doom.
– I have played a lot through life, says the game’s creator, Kenny Skott. I try to do something that is a mixture of everything I think has been fun. If I – like how I have sat with it for so long and should be so sick tired of it – still have fun when I play my games, then I probably have something good going on, says Kenny Skott.
So far, not many people have experienced the latest adventures in Krynto. Kenny Skott has played with his children himself and a dozen people are in full swing testing the game, which means that a bunch of selected players test the game for a while to detect any errors and bugs. But the game isn’t on the market yet. The hope is that the game will have time to be launched before the end of the year.
“I usually say to my children: ‘You should know how well you are doing. When I was little, I might have had one game to play, and I had to play it for several months. ”
– Kenny Skott
Kenny Skott is 35 years old and has been creating computer games alongside his job as a ventilation technician since 2009. All game development takes place from the TV room in the family’s home. There, surrounded by action figures and a drawing with the dedication “to daddy best”, he has spent many evenings and weekends in front of the computer. He has spent up to 600 hours alone in the development of the latest game and this summer Kenny Skott went down in working hours to invest properly in the dream of being able to live on developing games.
The great interest in computer games has spread to the children. Kenny Skott and his wife can no longer speak English at home so that their seven-year-old daughter and five-year-old son will not understand.
– I usually say to my children: “You should know how well you are doing. When I was little, I might have had one game to play, and I had to play it for several months ”.
“Downfall of Krynto” is part of a series of games in the same guise under the name The Three Kingdoms. With the investment in game development, Kenny Skott plans to broaden the range.
– The games I have made so far have been great role-playing games that take many hours to complete. But I’m in the process of maybe going into a little smaller projects now, maybe even apps.
In the world of indie-game developers that Kenny Skott operates in, there is a constant flow of money, services and rights in various groups and online forums. In “Downfall of Krynto”, Kenny Skott has drawn virtually all graphics and he is behind the story. But he has bought music, hired a British voice actor and one of the characters in the game he has borrowed from another game developer. The hope is that this, selling characters to other game developers, will be another way to make money, in addition to selling the actual games.
How it will go for Kenny Skott’s dream of being able to live on his great passion remains to be seen. But that interest in computer games shows no signs of cooling down.
Of course it is an escape from reality. But they are an escape from reality he shares with others, and not only with other players online, but also with his children.
– You experience a different life through other characters. When you were younger … to sit and play was to turn off the outside world and just be here and now. It is stress reducing.
